Berkay Tuncay brings his works, which he produced using various techniques for the last five years, together for the first time in Istanbul. The artist uses videos and photographs alongside with the images and texts he gathers from the internet and looks further into the effects that internet has on society through copying, gathering and transforming the cultural codes he finds online. He focuses on the concepts of error and randomness in the use of technological devices.
After graduating from Istanbul University’s Restoration of Removable Cultural Artifacts Department, Tuncay got his master’s degree from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University’s Digital Art and Design Program. His exhibition covers a wide range of themes from the control and custody of internet to the prominence of social media in our daily lives.
The exhibition provides the viewer with an extensive look with its focus on various issues; such as the fixation of online stats, the obscenity we are exposed to on a daily basis and the craze of posting online.
In his exhibition ‘Life is What Happens to You While You Are Watching Cute Cat Videos’, Tuncay observes how our life is transformed by the internet through his exploration of the concepts of global memory and interconnectedness.
